Nigerian Woman Sets New Guinness World Record with 144-hour Bible Marathon Reading

A Nigerian woman, Habibat Salawdeen who completed a 144-hour longest marathon reading of the Holy Bible on Monday has won a place in Guinness World Book of records.

Videos shared by friends and supporters on Instagram said that the latest Guinness World record holder completed the feat on Monday after six days of intense Bible reading. She was, however, allowed to take some breaks to attend to limited needs.

The journey was linked to the year 2022 where preparation for this feat began with consistency, endurance and devotion.

The feat came to limelight with the support of family members, friends, well-wishers and church members who stood by Habitat.

Habibat, who is a member of Summit Bible Church in Port Harcourt, began the record attempt on June 29 at the Novotel in the same state, strict compliance to the Guinness World Records regulations with the requirement being that participants read aloud with only limited breaks.

Habibat’s senior pastor, Dr. Andy Osakwe of Summit Bible Churches Worldwide, has said that the attempt was more of a spiritual project to exalt God’s Word than it was of a world record.

This Bible reading challenge was also attempted by Samson Ajao in 2024 for world’s longest marathon reading aloud.

Recognition of Habibat’s performance will be determined by the official verification of Guinness World Records.
