Kogi Police Launch Manhunt for Parent After Teacher Dies from Disciplinary Dispute Injuries
A secondary school teacher in Kogi State has tragically died days after being physically assaulted by a parent who was furious over the teacher’s attempts to discipline their child.
The violent confrontation reportedly began on the school premises when the parent stormed the facility to confront the educator over disciplinary measures meted out to the student.
Witness accounts indicate that the parent, accompanied by accomplices, severely beat the teacher, inflicting critical internal and bodily injuries. Although the teacher was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical attention following the assault, their health rapidly deteriorated over the subsequent days, ultimately leading to their untimely death.
The tragic incident has sparked severe outrage among educators, community stakeholders, and local chapters of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), who are collectively demanding immediate accountability and improved protection for teaching staff. In response to the public outcry, the Kogi State Police Command has launched a comprehensive criminal investigation into the matter.
Confirming the incident, police authorities stated that a dedicated team has been deployed to track down, apprehend, and prosecute the fleeing parent and anyone else complicit in the fatal assault to ensure absolute justice is served.
