The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled four-hour power disruption for Sunday, June 28, 2026, across five northern states and parts of the Niger Republic to facilitate critical maintenance and infrastructure upgrades at the Kumbotso 330-kilovolt transmission substation.

The planned outage, which will run from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, is necessary to enable contractors to upgrade the 330kV Bus II jumpers and replace existing 350mm² conductors with higher-capacity 800mm² conductors.

According to a statement by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, these technical adjustments are critical interventions designed to reinforce the national grid network, boost transmission capacity, and enhance overall power reliability across the region.

As a result of the maintenance window, regional electricity distribution companies will be temporarily unable to receive bulk power for onward distribution. The upgrade work will directly cut off power supply to consumers under the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), alongside sections of the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) and Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC). The affected territories span Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states, as well as Azare in Bauchi State, Nguru in Yobe State, and Gazaoua in the neighboring Niger Republic.
