Kidnappers Free Ondo Traditional Ruler After Days in Captivity
The traditional ruler of Ode-Oriya community in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Chief Adeniyi Adelana, has regained his freedom after spending days in the custody of kidnappers.
Chief Adelana, the Oloriya (Baale) of Ode-Oriya, was abducted earlier this month when heavily armed gunmen stormed his residence in the community during a late-night attack. The assailants reportedly invaded the palace, fired sporadically, and whisked the 60-year-old monarch into a nearby forest.
The attack also left the monarch's wife with a gunshot wound. She was immediately taken to a medical facility where she received treatment. The abduction sparked widespread concern across Owo Local Government Area and beyond, prompting the Ondo State Police Command to launch a manhunt for the perpetrators.
Security operatives, including tactical teams and local vigilantes, intensified search efforts in surrounding forests in a bid to rescue the traditional ruler. Sources confirmed on Friday that the monarch has now been released by his abductors.
He has reportedly reunited with his family, although details surrounding his freedom remain unclear. As of the time of filing this report, security authorities have not disclosed whether a ransom was paid or if any suspects have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping.
The Ondo State Police Command is also yet to issue an official statement on the circumstances of his release. The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns over insecurity and the increasing spate of kidnappings targeting traditional rulers and residents in parts of Ondo State.
Community leaders have called on security agencies to strengthen surveillance and intensify efforts to curb criminal activities across the state. Investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities continue efforts to track down those responsible for the abduction.
