Canada Approves Wahi’s Travel for World Cup Match, Ivory Coast Confirms

The Ivory Coast Football Federation has confirmed that striker, Elye Wahi has been cleared to travel to Canada ahead of the country's crucial FIFA World Cup fixture, ending uncertainty surrounding his availability for the tournament.

Wahi's participation had been thrown into doubt after reports emerged that Canadian authorities initially denied him entry due to an ongoing investigation in France related to alleged betting irregularities.

The situation raised concerns that the 23-year-old forward could miss Ivory Coast's upcoming group-stage clash against Germany.

However, in a statement released on Thursday, the Ivorian Football Federation announced that the necessary travel authorization had been granted, allowing the player to join the national team in Canada.

The federation reiterated its confidence in Wahi and emphasized that no official restrictions had been placed on the player's ability to represent the country at the World Cup.

The striker is currently being questioned by French authorities as part of an investigation into suspicious betting activity linked to a yellow card he received during a French Ligue 1 match.

Despite the ongoing probe, Wahi has not been charged with any offence. His availability comes as a major boost for Ivory Coast, who are seeking to build on their opening victory in the tournament.

Wahi featured in the team's first match and remains a key part of coach Emerse Faé's attacking plans. The development means Wahi is expected to be available for selection when Ivory Coast face Germany in a highly anticipated World Cup encounter.

The match could prove decisive in determining qualification for the knockout stages. The resolution of the travel issue has been welcomed by the Ivorian camp, with supporters hoping the striker can play a significant role in the team's World Cup campaign.
