Fire Razes Polaris Bank Building on Broad Street, Lagos

A fire outbreak on Thursday engulfed a building housing a branch of Polaris Bank on Broad Street, Lagos Island, causing panic among workers, customers, and residents in the bustling commercial district.

The incident, which occurred during business hours, sent thick smoke billowing into the sky as emergency responders raced to the scene to contain the blaze.

Eyewitnesses said people were seen evacuating the building hurriedly while firefighters worked to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures.

Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, alongside other emergency agencies, were deployed to the area shortly after distress calls were received.

The responders battled the flames amid concerns over the proximity of other commercial buildings within the densely populated business hub.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities had not confirmed any casualties. However, preliminary assessments indicated that parts of the affected building suffered significant damage.

The cause of the fire has yet to be officially determined. Investigations are expected to commence after emergency teams conclude containment and safety operations at the scene.

The incident disrupted business activities along Broad Street, with security personnel cordoning off sections of the area to facilitate emergency response efforts and ensure public safety.

Authorities have urged residents and motorists to avoid the vicinity while firefighting and assessment operations continue.

Further details are expected as officials provide updates on the extent of the damage and the outcome of ongoing investigations.
