Bandits Kill Three, Raze Houses in Attacks on Niger State Border Community
The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the killing of three persons and the burning of several houses following a violent assault by suspected bandits on Pissa village, located within the Borgu Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident to journalists, stating that the tactical raid occurred at approximately 9:00 a.m.
According to preliminary operational briefs, the armed bandits stormed the rural community in large numbers, shooting sporadically to displace residents before setting multiple residential structures and property ablaze. The joint security forces, comprising police tactical teams and local military units stationed within the Borgu axis, were immediately mobilized to the scene.
Upon encountering the superior firepower of the advancing security forces, the bandits retreated into the expansive forest reserves connecting the state to neighboring border terrains.
SP Abiodun confirmed that a massive combing operation and aggressive patrol loops are currently underway across the affected community and surrounding forests to track down the fleeing assailants.
The state police command urged residents of Borgu Local Government Area to remain calm and vigilant, reassuring the public that additional security reinforcements have been deployed to dominate the area and prevent further breaches of peace.
