Kwankwaso Never Threatened to Leave NDC, Party Spokesman Clarifies

The leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has cleared the air over rumours of internal cracks, stating firmly that its national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has never threatened to leave the party.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary issued the clarification over the weekend following widespread media speculation and viral online reports suggesting an imminent fallout between the former Kano State governor and the NDC leadership.

The political rumours began circulating after reports emerged that Kwankwaso was deeply dissatisfied with the party’s decision to review and alter its list of candidates for local governance slots in Kano State—Kwankwaso’s primary political stronghold.

Commentators had suggested that this administrative friction might push the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement to abandon the newly formed opposition alliance.

Dismissing the claims as the handiwork of mischief-makers and political detractors, the NDC spokesperson emphasized that Kwankwaso remains fully committed to the party’s foundational goals. He explained that routine administrative reviews of candidate lists are standard practice in any democratic institution and should not be misinterpreted as a crisis or an ultimatum from the party’s leadership.

The party noted that Kwankwaso, alongside other key opposition figures like Peter Obi, chose to consolidate their structures under the NDC banner as part of a deliberate, long-term political strategy to build a formidable, unified alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The spokesperson urged party members and the general public to disregard the rumors, assuring stakeholders that the internal mechanisms of the NDC remain robust, harmonious, and fully focused on deepening its grassroots mobilization strategies across Kano State and the entire country.
