NSCDC Arrests Scavenger for Buying Stolen Electric Wires in Edo
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo State has arrested a scavenger for purchasing stolen electric wires.
The suspect was caught in possession of the cables suspected to have been taken from public infrastructure. This arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to tackle theft of government property and protect critical national assets.
According to NSCDC officials, the scavenger bought the stolen wires without verifying their source. Such activities encourage vandals who damage electricity poles and cables, leading to power outages and economic losses. The command has warned residents against dealing in suspicious materials, especially those that clearly belong to power distribution companies.
The arrest has drawn attention to the problem of cable theft in parts of Edo State. Vandals often cut wires at night and sell them quickly to scrap dealers and scavengers. This cycle causes frequent breakdowns in electricity supply and increases costs for repairs that affect ordinary citizens.
NSCDC stressed that anyone found buying or selling stolen public property will face the full weight of the law. They urged the public to report suspicious movements of scrap materials to security agencies. Proper checks by buyers can help reduce these crimes and support better power supply in the state.
This latest action by the NSCDC shows their commitment to fighting economic sabotage. As investigations continue, the command hopes the case will serve as a deterrent to others involved in similar activities. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and support security efforts to protect infrastructure for the benefit of everyone.
