Nigeria’s Insecurity Now ‘Super Emergency, Says Ex-Military Spokesman, Enenche

Nigeria's Insecurity Now 'Super Emergency, Says Ex-Military Spokesman, Enenche Retired Major General John Enenche has described Nigeria's worsening security situation as a "super emergency," warning that years of inadequate action have allowed criminal activities to escalate across the country.

Enenche, a former Director of Defence Information, said the persistent threats posed by terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and other armed groups have continued to undermine national security and development.

Speaking on the state of security in the country, the retired army officer noted that Nigeria has yet to decisively overcome terrorism and other violent crimes despite ongoing military operations and government interventions.

According to him, the scale of attacks, abductions and killings being recorded in several parts of the country requires urgent and coordinated action from all levels of government and security agencies.

"The situation has become a super emergency," Enenche said, stressing that delayed responses and a lack of sustained strategic measures have contributed to the deepening crisis.

He called for the adoption of advanced technology, improved intelligence gathering and stronger collaboration among security agencies to effectively tackle insecurity.

He also urged authorities to identify and prosecute individuals providing support to criminal groups, arguing that local collaborators play a significant role in sustaining terrorist and bandit activities.

The retired general further emphasized the need for community involvement in intelligence sharing, noting that residents often possess valuable information that can help security agencies prevent attacks.

Enenche's remarks come amid renewed concerns over rising cases of kidnapping, banditry and terrorist attacks in various parts of the country, with stakeholders continuing to call for stronger measures to safeguard lives and property.

He urged political leaders and security institutions to treat insecurity as a national emergency and intensify efforts to restore peace and stability across Nigeria.
