10 Hospitalized as Sokoto Communities Fight Over Disputed Farmland

At least 10 people sustained severe injuries following a violent communal clash between residents of Gidan-Salihu and Gidan-Bature communities in the Kware Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The violent confrontation, which involved the use of dangerous weapons such as machetes, bows and arrows, and clubs, was triggered by a long-standing dispute over a piece of agricultural farmland located along the boundaries of the two neighboring villages.

Local sources revealed that tension boiled over when farmers from one of the communities attempted to cultivate the contested land ahead of the rainy season, leading to a fierce altercation that quickly escalated into a free-for-all fight. The clash left multiple victims with deep cuts and fractures, all of whom were rushed to the Kware General Hospital and the Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) in Sokoto for urgent medical treatment.

The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that a detachment of tactical operatives was swiftly deployed to the axis to restore law and order.

According to the police, the situation has been brought under control, and a peace meeting involving community heads, local government administrators, and security chiefs has been initiated to permanently resolve the boundary dispute and prevent further reprisal attacks.
