Trump Booed During NBA Finals Appearance at Madison Square Garden

United States President, Donald Trump was met with boos from sections of the crowd during Game Three of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden in New York on Monday night, as his visit triggered heightened security measures around the arena.

Trump, who watched the game from an executive suite, was jeered by fans when his image appeared on the arena’s video screens during the singing of the national anthem before tip-off.

The president’s attendance prompted extensive security arrangements, with authorities restricting access to several blocks surrounding Madison Square Garden and prohibiting public watch parties near the venue.

Officials advised ticket holders to arrive hours before the game to undergo airport-style security screening, while bags were barred from entry as part of the enhanced measures.

New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch said security protocols were designed to ensure public safety and urged individuals without tickets to avoid the area.

Ahead of the game, law enforcement agencies erected security barriers around sections of the arena and deployed hundreds of police officers alongside Secret Service personnel tasked with protecting the president.

The Secret Service also utilised counter-drone technology as part of its security operation, citing ongoing concerns for presidential safety.

Trump, a native New Yorker and long-time supporter of the New York Knicks, attended the game alongside family members and several senior administration officials.

His visit drew criticism from some residents and political figures who argued that the security restrictions disrupted celebrations surrounding the Knicks’ first NBA Finals appearance in decades.

Among the critics was Senate Minority Leader , who accused the president of creating unnecessary inconvenience for New Yorkers during a major sporting event.

Despite the disruptions, some fans welcomed Trump’s attendance, saying it demonstrated interest in one of the city’s most significant sporting occasions.

On the court, the defeated the 115-111, reducing New York’s lead in the best-of-seven NBA Finals series to 2-1.

The Knicks are seeking their first NBA championship since 1973, with the Finals generating widespread excitement across New York City.

Trump’s appearance marked another high-profile visit to Madison Square Garden, where he previously attended a mixed martial arts event following his 2024 election victory and held campaign events during his presidential bid.
