Reps Order Govt Agencies to Stop Rejecting Corps Members
The House of Representatives has directed all government agencies to stop rejecting members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The Lawmakers expressed concern over the growing practice of some agencies turning away corps members posted to them. They described the trend as unacceptable and unfair to the young graduates.
The directive came during a session where members highlighted the importance of the NYSC programme in national development. They noted that corps members are sent to serve their country and gain valuable experience. Rejecting them, according to the lawmakers, undermines the purpose of the scheme and affects the morale of young Nigerians.
Many corps members have complained about being rejected by certain ministries and agencies after reporting for duty. This often leaves them stranded and uncertain about where to serve. The House of Representatives believes every government establishment should accept and properly engage corps members assigned to them.
This strong position by the lawmakers is expected to bring relief to thousands of graduates who participate in the NYSC programme every year. It sends a clear message that no government agency has the right to refuse corps members without valid reasons approved by the NYSC authorities.
As the directive takes effect, many Nigerians hope it will be strictly followed. The NYSC scheme remains an important part of nation-building, and ensuring every corps member is accepted will help strengthen the programme. The House of Representatives has promised to monitor compliance to make sure the order is obeyed.
