Adelabu Family Abduction Shows No Nigerian Is Safe Under Tinubu, Laments Atiku
Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the abduction of family members of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, saying the incident underscores the worsening security situation in Nigeria.
Atiku made the remarks following the reported kidnapping of Adelabu’s sister and twin nephews in Ibadan, Oyo State. The victims were allegedly abducted in the Challenge area of the city, prompting concerns over rising insecurity in the country.
In a statement issued through his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, the former vice president expressed sympathy with the Adelabu family and called for the immediate and unconditional release of the victims.
He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to secure their rescue and ensure that those responsible for the crime are apprehended and prosecuted.
According to Atiku, the incident demonstrates that insecurity has reached alarming levels, affecting citizens across all social and political backgrounds. “The abduction of close relatives of a former minister is a stark reminder that no Nigerian is safe under the current security climate,” he said.
The ADC presidential candidate argued that the growing wave of kidnappings and violent crimes across the country reflects the need for a more effective and proactive security strategy.
He maintained that criminal elements have become increasingly emboldened and warned that the government must take urgent steps to address the challenge before it escalates further.
Atiku also called on the Federal Government to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve coordination among security agencies, and dismantle kidnapping networks operating across the country.
The abduction has renewed public concerns about the security situation in Nigeria, with many stakeholders urging authorities to intensify efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to announce the rescue of the victims, while investigations into the incident were ongoing.
