NPF Plans Digital Overhaul of Complaint Response Platform
The Nigeria Police Force have announced plans to enhance its Complaint Response Unit (CRU) as part of ongoing efforts to improve accountability, address human rights concerns and strengthen professionalism within the Force.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem, disclosed this during a visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, in Abuja, where he also sought greater collaboration with journalists in promoting public understanding of police reform initiatives.
Edem described the visit as part of his introductory engagements since assuming office, noting that the CRU remains a key platform through which members of the public report cases of misconduct involving police officers, including extortion, harassment, abuse of power and other rights violations.
He said the proposed upgrade would improve the platform’s efficiency by shortening response times, enhancing complaint monitoring and increasing transparency in the way reported cases are handled, in line with the reform agenda of the Inspector-General of Police.
According to him, strengthening the complaint management system will improve public confidence in the police while promoting discipline and accountability among officers.
The police spokesperson also revealed plans to organise a media parley with the Zone 7 Command, saying regular engagement with journalists is essential to ensuring accurate reporting and fostering public trust in the Force.
He stressed that the media has a vital role in communicating ongoing reforms to the public and promoting institutional accountability through balanced and responsible journalism.
In her response, the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, welcomed the planned reforms and reaffirmed the union’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at increasing public awareness of the Complaint Response Unit.
She also commended the Force PRO for prioritising engagement with the media, assuring him that journalists would continue to provide a platform for citizens’ complaints while highlighting issues requiring public attention and institutional response.
