Afenifere Insists Tinubu Must Do Two Terms, Cites Precedence Set by Buhari

Afenifere, has thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu, expressing its support for him to serve two terms in office.

The group made this known in a statement, where it drew parallels with the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement issued on Friday, Abagun Kole Omololu, national organising secretary of Afenifere, said Tinubu assumed power as a result of the democratic choice of Nigerians.

According to Omololu, when President Buhari was in office, his leadership was not labeled as a “Fulani government,” and he was allowed to serve out his full mandate without any tribal coalition forming to deny him a second term on ethnic grounds. The group argued that the same precedent should be applied to President Tinubu, allowing him to complete his two terms without any hindrance.

By endorsing Tinubu for two terms, Afenifere is sending a strong message that it will not support any attempts to undermine the President’s mandate or limit his tenure based on ethnic considerations. The group’s stance is likely to generate debate and discussion in the country’s political landscape, as Tinubu’s administration continues to navigate the complexities of Nigerian politics.

This development is seen as a significant boost to President Tinubu’s administration, as Afenifere’s support is expected to bolster his political capital and reinforce his legitimacy. As the news continues to unfold, Nigerians will be watching with keen interest to see how this endorsement will impact the country’s political dynamics.
