UNICAL Opens Post-UTME, Direct Entry Screening for 2026/2027 Admission
The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has announced the commencement of applications for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening exercise, inviting suitably qualified candidates seeking admission into the institution.
In a statement issued by the Registrar, Dr. Chukwuka Icha, the university said only candidates who selected UNICAL as their first-choice institution in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and obtained a minimum score of 150 are eligible to participate in the screening.
The institution, however, noted that candidates who did not initially choose UNICAL but wish to secure admission into the university can also apply after effecting a change of institution through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), provided they meet the required score.
According to the university, the online registration portal will become accessible on June 1, 2026, while applications will close on July 31, 2026.
UNICAL stated that the screening process has been fully automated, with candidates no longer required to use e-transact or scratch card PINs. Applicants are expected to complete the process online, including payment and submission of required information.
The university directed prospective candidates to visit its Post-UTME portal to verify their JAMB details, fill out the application form and pay a non-refundable screening fee of ₦2,000 using approved payment options such as ATM cards, bank transfers or USSD channels.
Applicants were advised to provide valid telephone numbers and email addresses during registration, as the institution would not be liable for issues arising from incorrect contact details.
The statement further stressed that candidates applying for admission into the Medicine and Surgery programme must present O’Level results obtained in a single sitting in compliance with the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) requirements.
The university also warned that any candidate found to have provided false information regarding UTME scores, O’Level qualifications or state of origin would be disqualified from the admission process.
Prospective applicants were urged to adhere strictly to the registration guidelines and ensure that all information submitted during the exercise is accurate and verifiable.
