IGP Approves Promotion of Nearly 18,000 Junior Police Officers Nationwide
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior officers across the Nigeria Police Force in a move aimed at improving personnel welfare and recognising outstanding service.
The development was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid.
According to the statement, the promotion exercise covers police commands and formations across the country. A total of 165 sergeants were elevated to the rank of inspector, 73 corporals were promoted to sergeant, while 17,714 constables advanced to the rank of corporal.
The police leadership said the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to reward hard work, professionalism and commitment to duty among personnel.
The Inspector-General noted that regular promotion remains an important aspect of the Force’s human resource management strategy, describing it as a key motivation tool for officers in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
He stated that the promotion of eligible personnel reflects the commitment of the current police administration to merit-based career advancement and institutional development.
Disu congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to view their elevation as a call to greater responsibility and service.
He also charged them to uphold professionalism, discipline and integrity while carrying out their duties, stressing the importance of respecting human rights and adhering to the rule of law.
The police chief further encouraged the officers to remain dedicated to their responsibilities and continue contributing to the effectiveness and credibility of the Nigeria Police Force.
