Two Confirmed Dead After Car Plunges Into River in Ibadan

Two persons have lost their lives after a vehicle plunged into a river in the Amuloko area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The victims were recovered from Ariyo River in Ona Ara Local Government Area during a rescue operation carried out by officials of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency on Friday.

According to the agency, the accident involved a Toyota Avensis which reportedly lost control while in motion before veering off the road and falling into the river.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Maroof Akinwande, said emergency responders were mobilised to the scene immediately after receiving a distress call.

He explained that rescue personnel arrived to find the vehicle completely submerged and subsequently launched efforts to recover its occupants.

Akinwande said the operation led to the retrieval of two bodies from the vehicle after firefighters applied the necessary rescue procedures.

The recovered victims were later handed over to officers of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Ogbere Divisional Police Headquarters for further action.

Authorities have yet to release the identities of the deceased, while investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The incident has renewed concerns over road safety and the dangers posed by accidents along major roads and waterways within the state.
