Troops Kill Suspected ISWAP Spy Near Borno Border
Troops operating under Operation Hadin Kai have killed a suspected Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad/Islamic State West Africa Province informant during a night patrol along the Banki border corridor in Borno State.
According to security sources cited by counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred after soldiers observed suspicious movement near the border route linking Cameroon to Banki town.
The suspect was reportedly seen crossing the perimeter fence from the Cameroonian side into the town in what troops believed was an attempt to monitor military activities in the area.
The troops engaged the suspect during the operation, leading to his death.
Following the incident, soldiers carried out a search operation across the surrounding area in an effort to locate other suspected insurgents, but no additional arrests or encounters were reported.
Security officials said surveillance and monitoring activities have since been strengthened along the border corridor to prevent infiltration and intelligence gathering by terrorist groups.
