Don Jazzy Jokes He May Search for Wife in Uganda or Tanzania After Giving Up on Nigeria
Mavin Records founder and music mogul, Don Jazzy has once again set social media buzzing after joking during an online exchange that his long and well-documented search for a wife may have to extend beyond Nigeria’s borders, with Uganda and Tanzania now squarely in his sights.
The 43-year-old music executive, whose marital status has been a recurring subject of national curiosity for years, made the remarks in a characteristically candid and self-deprecating manner that has endeared him to millions of followers.
Responding to a conversation about African identity, Don Jazzy said he sometimes feels a connection to other African nationalities, declaring that he occasionally feels Ghanaian, South African, or Ugandan. He then turned his attention to the question of marriage, stating that since he had not found a wife in Nigeria, Uganda and Tanzania were now open possibilities. He went further to direct a playful question at Ugandan women, asking whether they would be interested in having him as a suitor.
The remarks, while made in jest, reopened a deeper conversation about Don Jazzy’s admission in 2025 that one of the reasons he had remained single was his belief that he does not possess the self-discipline required to remain faithfully committed to one partner. The Umuahia-born music titan was briefly married to British-Nigerian model Michelle Jackson between 2003 and 2005, a union he has previously said ended because music consumed his priorities at the time.
Don Jazzy remains one of the most influential figures in African popular music, having built Mavin Records into a continent-wide powerhouse that has launched the careers of artists including Rema, Ayra Starr, Ladipoe, and Johnny Drille. Despite his professional stature, it is often his personal candour and humour that generates the most engagement online, with his latest comments drawing a flood of affectionate responses from fans across Nigeria and beyond.
