BUK Lecturer, Musa Labaran Dies in Kano after Brief Illness

The Bayero University, Kano (BUK) community has been thrown into mourning following the demise of a senior lecturer in the Department of Information and Media Studies, Musa Labaran, who passed away after a brief illness.

He was confirmed dead in the early hours of Monday in Kano, according to a colleague, Ibrahim Siraj, who spoke on behalf of the department.

Siraj said the late academic had actively participated in a departmental meeting held on Friday and showed no signs of illness, describing his sudden death as shocking to colleagues.

He added that the meeting was expected to reconvene on Monday before news of his passing was received.

Following the announcement, colleagues and students took to social media to express grief, describing the deceased as a committed lecturer who contributed significantly to teaching, research and student development in the department.

The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, also expressed condolences over the death, describing it as a major loss to the academic community and the media profession.

In a statement issued through his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, the governor noted that the late lecturer was a respected scholar whose work in communication studies and public discourse left a lasting impact.

He prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant his family, colleagues and students the strength to bear the loss.

The university community continues to mourn the loss of the lecturer, who is remembered for his dedication to teaching, mentorship and academic excellence.
