The Sokoto State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has adopted Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s Acting Publicity Secretary, Amb. Abdulkadir Umar Gidadawa.
According to the statement, the adoption followed series of consultations and a consensus meeting attended by party elders, stakeholders and leaders drawn from the three senatorial districts of the state.
The PDP said the process was overseen by the state caretaker committee and formed part of efforts to promote unity and strengthen internal harmony within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party described Abdullahi as a seasoned administrator and grassroots politician with a history of public service and dedication to the development of Sokoto State.
It stated that his emergence demonstrated the PDP’s determination to field a candidate capable of uniting party members, securing victory at the polls, and providing effective leadership for the state.
The party also praised other aspirants and stakeholders for prioritising the collective interest of the PDP and urged members across wards and local government areas to intensify mobilisation efforts.
The statement added that the PDP remained focused on tackling insecurity, promoting economic development, and ensuring inclusive governance in Sokoto State.
