2026 Ojude Oba Festival to Honour Late Awujale’s Legacies
The organisers of the Ojude Oba Festival have announced that the 2026 edition will be dedicated to celebrating the life and achievements of the late Awujale of Ijebuland. This decision reflects the deep respect the Ijebu people have for their departed monarch.
The festival, known for its rich cultural display, will continue as a way to keep his memory alive.
The coordinator of the festival explained that the celebration will focus on tradition, unity, and continuity. Even though the stool of the Awujale is currently vacant, the event will go ahead on the third day after Ileya as usual. It will bring together indigenes, visitors from across Nigeria, and people in the diaspora to pay homage to the throne and the late king’s contributions.
Ojude Oba is one of the most colourful festivals in Yoruba land. It features beautiful horse parades, cultural performances, and thanksgiving by different groups. This year’s edition is expected to be even more significant as the community uses it to reflect on the late Awujale’s long and impactful reign.
Many Ijebu sons and daughters have welcomed the plan. They see the festival as an important platform to preserve their heritage and show gratitude for the late monarch’s leadership. Preparations are already underway to make the 2026 event memorable and respectful.
This announcement brings excitement to cultural enthusiasts and the people of Ijebu Ode. The 2026 Ojude Oba Festival promises to be a powerful tribute that honours the past while looking forward to the future of the kingdom. Residents and visitors are encouraged to participate in this special celebration of culture and legacy.
