IGP Disu Storms Oyo Communities, Orders Maximum Tactical Deployment for Pupil Rescue
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has paid a high-level assessment visit to affected communities in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following the recent wave of violent terror attacks and mass school abductions in the region.
During the visit, the police boss issued a directive for the immediate deployment of additional specialized tactical assets to reinforce the ongoing rescue operations and flush out criminal networks hiding in the state’s forest fringes.
The IGP’s operational visit follows the deeply disturbing coordinated raids by heavily armed gunmen targeting the Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, as well as the shared premises of L.A. Primary School and Community Grammar School in Esiele.
The attacks resulted in the death of an assistant headmaster and a commercial motorcyclist, alongside the mass abduction of over 45 pupils and the school’s Vice Principal, Mrs. Alamu Folawe.
Addressing community leaders, traumatized families, and stakeholders during his tour of the troubled locations, Disu expressed deep condolences over the lives lost and condemned the targeting of innocent schoolchildren. He assured residents that the Nigeria Police Force is treating the incident with the highest level of urgency.
To ensure the swift and unharmed release of all captives, the IGP ordered an immediate intensification of the joint-agency search dragnets already squeezing the outer perimeters of the Old Oyo National Park, where the kidnappers are believed to be cornered.
He instructed the deployed anti-kidnapping squads, intelligence operatives, and aerial surveillance units to work in seamless synergy with the military, local hunters, and the newly established subnational security formations.
Furthermore, IGP Disu emphasized that the Force is implementing long-term, proactive security architectures to permanently secure schools and rural borders across the Southwest. He urged community members to assist the police by volunteering actionable, real-time intelligence, noting that breaking the communication gap between rural citizens and first responders is pivotal to dismantling the operations of syndicates before they strike.
