Suspected Hackers Hijack NEMA Website, Agency Moves to Restore System
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says its official website has been compromised in what it suspects to be a cyberattack.
In a statement shared on its official X account on Friday, the agency confirmed that unauthorized actors gained access to the site and disrupted normal operations. It added that technical teams are currently working to secure the platform, fix vulnerabilities and restore full functionality.
NEMA also cautioned the public against engaging with any suspicious messages, fake announcements, or requests for payment that may appear on the affected website or linked channels, warning that such content should be ignored.
While apologising for any inconvenience caused, the agency assured that efforts were ongoing to fully recover the system and strengthen its digital security infrastructure.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over repeated cybersecurity weaknesses affecting government websites in Nigeria. In earlier reports, independent investigations had suggested that parts of NEMA’s online platforms had previously been defaced or redirected to unrelated commercial content, including gambling pages.
At the time of reporting, the agency had not confirmed whether any sensitive information was accessed or compromised during the latest breach.
