The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning to all aspirants ahead of the 2027 primary elections, threatening immediate suspension for anyone found undermining”the party’s internal democratic processes.

The party leadership stated that it will not tolerate acts of sabotage, including the sponsorship of protests, the spreading of misinformation, or attempts to bypass official screening guidelines.

In a statement released on Monday, the APC National Publicity Secretary emphasized that the party is committed to maintaining discipline and order. The warning is seen as a direct response to recent pockets of unrest and public grievances expressed by some interest groups in various state chapters.

The NWC noted that while the party encourages healthy competition, any aspirant who engages in anti-party activities or attempts to discredit the primary process will face severe disciplinary action, which may include disqualification from the race.

The party leadership also reiterated that the guidelines for the primaries are sacrosanct and must be followed by every member seeking an elective post. To ensure transparency, the NWC has set up a monitoring committee to observe the conduct of aspirants and their supporters across the country. The committee is tasked with identifying and reporting any behavior that could bring the party into disrepute or jeopardize its unity ahead of the general elections.

Furthermore, the APC urged all aspirants to use the internal dispute resolution mechanisms provided by the party’s constitution rather than taking their grievances to the public or the courts prematurely. The statement reminded members that the goal of the primary season is to select the most viable candidates to represent the party, and this can only be achieved in an atmosphere of mutual respect and adherence to established rules.

As the political climate intensifies, the party’s move is intended to project a sense of stability and institutional control.
