Gombe Lawmaker Defects from APC After Losing Reps Ticket

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdullahi El-Rasheed, popularly known as Bala Kelly, has left the All Progressives Congress (APC). He made the decision after failing to get the party’s ticket for the Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency.

This move marks another political shift in Gombe State ahead of future elections.

Bala Kelly could not secure the consensus arrangement within the APC. Many politicians in similar situations often look for new platforms where they feel they have better chances. His defection is seen as a direct result of the internal arrangements that did not favour him.

The lawmaker has been active in representing his constituency at the national level. His exit from the ruling party is likely to change the political calculations in Gombe. Supporters and observers are now watching to see which party he will join next.

Political defections like this are common in Nigeria, especially when politicians feel sidelined during ticket distributions. It often leads to realignments and new alliances as elections approach. Bala Kelly’s case adds to the growing list of lawmakers moving between parties.

As the situation develops, residents of Dukku/Nafada and Gombe State are paying close attention. The defection could affect the balance of power in the area. Many expect more politicians to make similar moves in the coming months as political activities heat up.
