LASEPA Pushes for Better Waste Management to Fight Lagos Pollution
The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) is calling for stronger efforts in handling industrial waste.
The agency wants companies to follow better practices to reduce pollution and protect the environment. This push came during a special training workshop held in Ikeja for industry operators.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Olakunle Akodu, said the programme helps check how well companies are obeying the rules. He explained that the goal is to encourage self-regulation and reward those who meet environmental standards. Sharing information with industries, he added, will help them improve their performance.
LASEPA General Manager, Babatunde Ajayi, noted that many companies have started installing equipment to control pollution, leading to cleaner operations. However, he warned that those who fail to comply will face penalties, including fines, shutdowns, or court cases. The agency is also using new technologies like scrubbers and smart monitoring systems to track emissions more effectively.
Other officials, including Permanent Secretary Omobolaji Gaji and Mamud Adegbite, stressed the importance of safety, quality, and proper operation of pollution control facilities. They said good waste management is key to protecting public health and keeping the environment safe for everyone in Lagos.
Participants at the workshop received training on sustainable practices and were given certificates at the end. This move by LASEPA shows the state’s commitment to a cleaner and healthier Lagos. Many hope that industries will take these lessons seriously and help create a better environment for residents.
