Rivers Govt Denies Claims Fubara Is Focused on 2027 Politics
The Rivers State Government has dismissed allegations that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is prioritising political ambitions ahead of governance, insisting that the administration remains focused on infrastructure and development projects across the state.
The response followed recent remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who accused the governor of concentrating on second-term politics instead of governance and the passage of the 2026 budget.
Wike, during a media chat in Abuja on Wednesday, also alleged that Fubara violated an agreement reached during President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the political crisis in Rivers State, claiming the governor had pledged not to seek reelection.
Reacting to the claims, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, described the allegations as unfounded.
Speaking on a programme on Nigeria Info 92.3 FM monitored in Port Harcourt on Friday, Nzeshi said the governor had continued to inspect and execute major projects across the state.
According to him, Fubara has remained actively involved in governance and project supervision, contrary to claims that he is focused on the 2027 elections.
He also rejected allegations that ongoing projects had been abandoned, stating that the governor inherited 12 major road projects from the previous administration and that most of them had recorded significant progress.
Nzeshi added that projects such as the Trans-Kalabari Road Phase One and the Port Harcourt Ring Road were nearing completion.
The governor’s aide urged residents to ignore attempts to discredit the administration, maintaining that the governor had shown commitment and consistency in delivering infrastructure projects across the state.
