One Dead as Gunmen Ambush Police Patrol Team in Plateau

Tragedy struck in Plateau State yesterday as unidentified gunmen launched a violent assault on a police patrol team, leaving one person dead and sparking fresh concerns over the security situation in the North-Central region.

The incident reportedly occurred during a routine surveillance operation, when the officers were ambushed by the assailants who opened fire without provocation.

The sudden exchange of gunfire caused panic in the vicinity, as residents scrambled for safety. According to preliminary reports, one individual—whose identity is yet to be officially confirmed as either a security operative or a civilian bystander—lost their life in the chaos. The gunmen fled the scene into nearby forested terrain shortly after the attack, before reinforcement teams could arrive to intercept them.

In response to the killing, the Plateau State Police Command has deployed additional tactical units to the area to track down the perpetrators and prevent any further breach of peace. Security cordons have been established around the location of the ambush, and investigators are currently scouring the scene for forensic evidence that could lead to the arrest of the attackers.

This latest incident adds to a troubling wave of violence that has recently plagued various local government areas in the state, involving both communal clashes and targeted attacks on security personnel.

Government officials and community leaders have consistently called for increased vigilance and cooperation between the public and law enforcement to stem the tide of insecurity that continues to threaten the stability of the region.
