Political Skepticism Ignites Online as Critics Question Peter Obi’s Consistency

The digital political landscape has been set ablaze following a sharp critique from social media influencer Daniel Regha regarding the political reliability of former presidential candidate Peter Obi. In a post that has quickly gained traction on X (formerly Twitter).

Regha questioned the foundational trust of Obi’s supporters, citing the politician’s history of party switching as a red flag for his future policy commitments.

The controversy centers on Obi’s recent political maneuvers, including his departure from the Labour Party to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in late 2025. Regha’s tweet suggests that a leader who can “contemplate switching parties with ease” after making public pledges of loyalty might just as easily abandon his campaign promises once in power. This sentiment taps into a growing debate among Nigerians about whether political “floor-crossing” is a tactical necessity or a sign of ideological instability.

Beyond the question of loyalty, the critique pointed to a perceived weakness in Obi’s leadership: his ability to manage internal friction. Regha’s post specifically noted that the former Anambra State Governor “doesn’t know how to contain internal crisis,” likely referencing the administrative and factional turmoils that plagued the Labour Party during and after the 2023 election cycle.

The reaction to Regha’s commentary has been deeply polarized. While detractors of the “Obidient” movement have embraced the tweet as a valid assessment of political opportunism, Obi’s staunch supporters—now transitioning their energy toward the ADC—defend his moves as a “rescue mission.” They argue that switching parties is a response to the “capture” of political structures by entrenched interests, rather than a lack of integrity.

As Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 electoral cycle, the discourse surrounding Peter Obi’s recent alliance with the ADC and his potential partnership with figures like Rabiu Kwankwaso continues to dominate the national conversation.

Whether these party shifts represent a strategic masterstroke or a liability remains a central question for the Nigerian electorate.
