Two Suspects Arrested for Killing 33-Year-Old Woman in Anambra

Police in Anambra State have arrested two men for the murder of a 33-year-old woman.

The suspects allegedly killed the woman and dumped her body in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in Oraifite. The arrest came after weeks of investigation into the tragic incident.

The victim was first reported missing by her mother on March 13, 2026. The following day, her lifeless body was discovered inside a culvert. Her father later identified the body as that of his missing daughter. The case was then transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough probe.

The two suspects have been named as Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara, aged 26, and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, aged 20. According to police, the principal suspect, Ikwugwara, confessed to the crime during questioning. He said he had been in a relationship with the deceased for about three years and claimed he did not know she was married.

Ikwugwara told investigators that after a disagreement with the victim’s husband, he developed a strange illness that affected his sight. Out of resentment, he plotted the attack. On March 13, he lured the woman to his residence under the pretence of seeking help for his illness. When she arrived, he and the second suspect attacked her with a machete, leading to her death. They then dumped her body in the culvert early the next morning.

Both suspects have confessed to their roles in the murder and will be charged in court after the investigation is concluded. The Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has praised the detectives for their professionalism and hard work.

He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of crime.
