Tinubu Postpones Start of Three-Nation Trip by One Day
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rescheduled the commencement of his planned three-nation trip to Sunday, instead of Saturday as earlier announced, according to his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Onanuga disclosed the change on Saturday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the President’s trip would now begin a day later than initially planned. No reason was immediately provided for the adjustment.
Tinubu had been scheduled to depart Abuja on Saturday for official visits to France, Kenya, and Rwanda as part of a diplomatic and economic engagement tour.
According to an earlier statement by Onanuga, the trip will begin with a stop in France before proceeding to Nairobi, where Tinubu is expected to participate in the Africa-France Summit scheduled for May 11 to 12.
The summit, to be co-chaired by Emmanuel Macron and William Ruto, will focus on key issues including energy transition, digital transformation, and climate action.
“President Tinubu’s participation… will underscore Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with African nations and the French Republic,” the statement said.
Following the Kenya engagement, the President is expected to travel to Kigali for the Africa CEO Forum, slated for May 14 to 15.
The forum, organised in partnership with the International Finance Corporation, will bring together business leaders and policymakers to discuss investment opportunities and economic growth across Africa.
At both events, Tinubu is expected to deliver statements outlining his administration’s reforms aimed at positioning Nigeria as a preferred destination for investment, while also holding high-level meetings with global and African business leaders.
He will be accompanied on the trip by ministers and senior aides and is expected to return to Nigeria after concluding his engagements in Rwanda.
