Otti Says Labour Party Crisis Over, Declares Readiness for 2027
Governor Alex Otti has said the Labour Party has moved past its internal crisis and is now united and prepared for the 2027 general elections.
Otti made the remarks on Thursday at the party’s national headquarters while observing the inaugural meeting of the newly constituted National Working Committee (NWC). He stated that the party had weathered its most difficult period and emerged stronger.
“The worst is over. We can’t see anything worse than what we have gone through,” he said.
The new NWC, chaired by Nenadi Usman, was elected during the party’s national convention held on April 28 in Umuahia.
Otti called on party leaders to maintain unity and discipline, warning against actions that could trigger fresh divisions.
He stressed that reconciliation efforts were ongoing, noting that more than 25 state chairmen from rival factions attended the convention, with some absorbed into the new leadership structure.
“There is no victor and no vanquished — everyone is a winner. Our focus now is reconciliation and rebuilding,” he said, adding that the party remains open to members who had previously left.
The governor also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the 2027 elections, expressing confidence that it would field a strong presidential candidate.
Members of the NWC commended Otti for his role in stabilising the party during its crisis and pledged to reposition it as a credible political force ahead of future polls.
