NNPP Schedules Primary Elections for May 26 Ahead of 2027 General Polls
The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has officially scheduled May 26 as the date for its primary elections for all elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party confirmed that this timeline applies to all offices, including the Presidency, National Assembly, governorships, and Houses of Assembly.
According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, the NNPP intends to utilize the consensus mode of election across all wards nationwide. The party has already formally communicated this schedule to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure compliance with electoral regulations.
Johnson also highlighted a recent milestone in the party’s internal administration, noting that INEC concluded a verification exercise of the NNPP’s operational and administrative structures at its national secretariat in Abuja on April 23. He asserted that the successful completion of this exercise serves as official validation of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Hon. Bala Mohammad.
Addressing internal challenges, Johnson dismissed the claims of expelled members regarding the leadership of the party. He characterized the ongoing legal challenges from these individuals as “shadow-boxing,” citing a subsisting Federal High Court judgment that affirms their expulsion. Johnson expressed confidence that the party’s current NWC is the only legally recognized leadership and that the Supreme Court will eventually resolve the matter in their favor.
In light of the upcoming primaries, the party has issued a call for Nigerians—specifically youth and professionals—to participate in the ongoing membership registration process. This registration is currently active across the 774 local government areas and 8,809 wards throughout the country as the party prepares to finalize its candidates for the 2027 election cycle.
