Shehu Sani Labels Support for Peter Obi as Tribalistic, Predicts Tinubu Victory in 2027

Former Senator, Shehu Sani, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, has ignited political discourse by describing the support for Peter Obi as “drama” fueled by tribal sentiments.

Speaking during an episode of “The Honest Bunch Podcast” alongside activist Deji Adeyanju, Sani offered a critical assessment of the opposition’s momentum as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

Sani argued that the enthusiasm surrounding Peter Obi’s political movement does not necessarily translate to a potential for meaningful national transformation. He claimed that many of Obi’s vocal supporters are motivated primarily by ethnic affiliations rather than distinct policy differences, asserting that an Obi presidency would not produce a significant shift in Nigeria’s governance outcomes.

In his broader critique of the Nigerian political class, the former Kaduna Central lawmaker suggested that there is little ideological difference between the country’s prominent leaders. He grouped Peter Obi with established figures such as former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Atiku Abubakar, and President Bola Tinubu, arguing that they all share the same underlying political ideology and approach to governance.

Looking ahead to 2027, Sani expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure re-election. His assessment of the electoral landscape was particularly cynical, characterizing the available political choices for Nigerians as a selection between “Satan and the devil,” implying a lack of genuine ideological alternatives for the electorate to consider.

The former senator’s remarks have sparked debate, highlighting the intense polarization and growing political maneuvering as parties gear up for the next election cycle. By dismissing the opposition’s viability and framing the ruling party’s victory as inevitable, Sani’s comments reflect the ongoing, often combative, nature of the discourse as political actors align their strategies for 2027.
