Peter Obi Only Exhausted After Days of Health Rumours, Explains NDC
The Nigeria Democratic Congress has said its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is suffering from nothing more than exhaustion, as the party tries to put to rest days of speculation about his health.
Dr Sam Omale, the party’s Deputy Campaign Spokesperson, made the remarks on Tuesday during an appearance on Channels Television. He said Obi’s demanding schedule and constant travel had left him tired, describing a candidate who can be in London one day and in Enugu the next morning.
Omale insisted there was nothing medically wrong with the former Anambra State governor, saying his team was simply trying to get him to calm down and sleep. He added that the exhaustion would not affect the party’s campaign.
The comments follow a viral report, accompanied by photographs, claiming that Obi had been hospitalised after breaking his neck in a gym. Over the weekend, Obi’s spokesman, Idris Zekeri, dismissed the claim as false and described the images as doctored.
He accused political opponents of fabricating the story ahead of the 2027 election. Zekeri said he was with Obi on Sunday morning before the candidate boarded a flight for an international engagement, though he declined to say where Obi was headed, explaining that he was not authorised to disclose it.
Omale’s explanation has drawn sceptical reactions from some social media users, with a number of them questioning the party’s account and calling for clearer information on the candidate’s condition.
