371 Bag First-Class Degrees as Covenant University Graduates 1,843 Students

Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, has graduated 1,843 students at its 21st convocation ceremony, with 371 undergraduates emerging with First-Class honours.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Anake, announced the figures on Friday during the institution’s 2026 convocation ceremony, held for the award of first and higher degrees and the presentation of prizes to outstanding students.

The graduating class comprised 1,655 undergraduates and 188 postgraduate students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

A breakdown of the undergraduate results showed that 371 students obtained First-Class honours, while 926 graduated with Second-Class Upper degrees. Another 345 students earned Second-Class Lower degrees, while 13 finished with Third-Class honours.

Etta Queendolin, from the Department of Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering, emerged as the overall best graduating student, recording a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.99.

Anake described the academic performance as evidence of the students’ determination, the commitment of the university’s lecturers and its continued investment in academic excellence.

He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to producing graduates capable of competing in the labour market, establishing businesses, creating employment opportunities, advancing research and contributing meaningfully to society.

The Chancellor of the university, Dr David Oyedepo, urged the graduating students to focus on providing solutions to societal challenges rather than merely drawing attention to existing problems.

Oyedepo said discovering one’s purpose was essential to living a meaningful life, advising the graduates to remain focused on their individual assignments and distinguish themselves in their chosen professions.

He cautioned them against losing direction in the pursuit of success, stressing that they should take practical steps towards addressing challenges instead of waiting for others to solve them.

According to him, the numerous problems confronting society present opportunities for graduates to develop ideas and solutions that can make a difference.

Also speaking, the Pro-Chancellor, Mrs Faith Oyedepo, congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to embrace continuous learning, improve their skills and prepare themselves for emerging opportunities.

She urged them to look beyond personal achievements by developing solutions that address human challenges and contribute to the transformation of their communities.

She further advised the graduates to make meaningful contributions locally while pursuing opportunities for wider impact, adding that they should remain committed to honesty and stand firmly for the truth.
