Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma has maintained that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains the party’s political platform in the state, amid growing disagreements over the Rainbow Coalition promoted by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The position comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Wike seeking to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election while backing candidates from different political parties in other electoral contests.

Uzodimma, who also chairs the Progressive Governors Forum, has previously stated that APC governors would not support political arrangements capable of weakening the party or undermining its candidates.

He maintained that the governors’ commitment remained focused on Tinubu’s re-election and candidates officially sponsored by the APC at all levels.

The disagreement has exposed differences between Wike’s political strategy and the position of some APC leaders, who argue that supporting candidates outside the ruling party could create divided loyalty and weaken the party’s electoral structure.

Wike, however, has insisted that the Rainbow Coalition is not an APC structure. He has described it as a cross-party platform established to mobilise support for Tinubu while allowing members to support or contest elections under other political parties.

The dispute highlights the political tensions surrounding the coalition as parties and their leaders position themselves for the 2027 elections.
