Melania Trump Says She Secured Local Ceasefire in Ukrainian City of Oleshky
US First Lady, Melania Trump has announced that she secured a localized ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the ravaged city of Oleshky. She said the front-line city is on the brink of disaster, with residents trapped and short of food.
In a statement released by her office on Friday, Melania described the situation in Oleshky as dire. She said it was clear that without her intervention, it would have been impossible to bring humanitarian aid into the city or evacuate the elderly.
The localized ceasefire is scheduled to begin on October 29. There was no immediate confirmation of the arrangement from either Moscow or Kyiv.
The announcement comes a year after Melania Trump revealed she had established a back channel of communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Her office said she has since helped reunite 34 children separated from their parents by the war, including some who had been abducted by Russia.
Melania said she worked with both Russian and Ukrainian leaderships on the Oleshky plan. She added that civilian leaders from both countries would visit the city together to assess aid needs, while residents who wish to leave would receive support to travel to their preferred destination, whether Russia or Ukraine.
