Tinubu’s Reforms Designed to Address Economic Weaknesses, Restore Stability, Says Idris

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, says President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies are intended to correct structural problems, strengthen public finances and promote long-term economic growth.

Idris made the remarks in Abuja when he received a delegation from Women of Influence for Tinubu 2027, led by its National Convener, Hauwa Farouk Ibrahim, during a courtesy visit to the ministry.

He identified the removal of the petrol subsidy and the unification of foreign exchange rates as major policy measures introduced to stabilise the economy and improve the government’s financial position.

According to the minister, the reforms are also intended to increase the capacity of the federal, state and local governments to fund infrastructure, public services and other development programmes.

He said the measures had expanded the resources available to the three tiers of government, creating room for increased spending on projects designed to improve citizens’ welfare.

While acknowledging the difficulties associated with the policies, Idris maintained that the decisions were taken to address longstanding economic challenges and establish a stronger foundation for future generations.

“It is very, very easy and convenient to forget where we are coming from. These were difficult decisions, but they were taken in the interest of our country and the prosperity of future generations,” he said.

The minister urged members of the organisation to step up public enlightenment campaigns at the grassroots, particularly by explaining the reasons behind the administration’s policies, the circumstances that informed their introduction and their intended outcomes.

He stressed that sustained public engagement was necessary to help Nigerians better understand government programmes and encourage informed discussions about the country’s economic direction.

Idris also called on the group to mobilise citizens to understand the administration’s policies and engage with its economic reform agenda.

“We want you to, please, influence other Nigerians so that they can understand the policies of this administration and support government as it continues its drive towards repositioning our country,” he said.

He reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to work with organisations involved in public enlightenment and accepted the group’s request to become its patron. He also pledged to appoint a liaison officer to coordinate further engagements between the ministry and the organisation.

Earlier, Ibrahim said Women of Influence for Tinubu 2027 was established to mobilise Nigerian women and harness their influence in promoting national development and building grassroots support for the president’s administration.

She disclosed that the group had begun operations in Kano State and was expanding through online platforms and community-based activities to reach more women and other Nigerians.

Ibrahim expressed the organisation’s willingness to partner with the ministry in raising public awareness of government policies and programmes.
