Regulatory Certainty Centre of Investment Debate at Nigeria Mining Week

Policy clarity, predictable regulation and stronger governance are in focus at the final day of Nigeria Mining Week 2026 as stakeholders examine ways to attract investment into the country’s solid minerals sector.

The 11th edition of the event, held at the Abuja Continental Hotel from October 12 to 14, brings together mining companies, investors, government representatives and industry organisations under the theme “Unlocking Investment and Growth through Partnerships.”

A key session on Wednesday, titled “Building a Clear, Predictable and Competitive Policy Environment,” examines how regulatory consistency, transparency and institutional accountability can strengthen investor confidence in Nigeria’s mining industry. The programme also draws on experiences from other African mining jurisdictions, including Botswana and Ghana.

The discussions come as industry stakeholders continue to identify regulatory uncertainty, security concerns and weak coordination between government agencies as barriers to mining investment.

At the opening of the event, President of the Miners Association of Nigeria, Oba Ayandele Ayanleke, highlighted insecurity along mining corridors and jurisdictional disputes between federal and subnational authorities as challenges affecting mining operations and investor confidence.

The conference agenda also addresses geological data, project financing, infrastructure and mineral processing, reflecting the range of issues that influence whether mineral discoveries can develop into commercially viable operations.

For Nigeria, the broader challenge is to translate its mineral potential into sustainable investment, domestic processing and jobs. Clear rules and effective enforcement are central to that objective, alongside reliable geological information, security and infrastructure.

The final day’s discussions are expected to bring these policy and investment questions into focus as participants consider the conditions needed to support the long-term development of Nigeria’s mining industry.
