UK Prison Nurse Admits Affair With Inmate Convicted of Manslaughter
A 29-year-old prison nurse in the United Kingdom, Stephanie Adair, has pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office after admitting to an inappropriate personal relationship with an inmate at HMP Wandsworth in London.
Adair, who lives in Southwark, appeared at Kingston Crown Court on Tuesday, October 13, where she entered a guilty plea to a single count of misconduct in public office.
The charge relates to a relationship she maintained with prisoner Jakhi Crosdale between September 2023 and November 2024 while working at the prison.
Court documents stated that Adair engaged in the relationship with Crosdale and maintained contact with him through his unauthorised mobile phone while he was incarcerated.
Adair appeared in court dressed in a black blazer and spoke briefly to confirm her identity and enter her plea.
Crosdale, 28, also appeared before the court through a video link from HMP Manchester, where he is currently being held.
The court heard that Crosdale had previously been convicted of manslaughter. He also pleaded guilty to a charge involving the unauthorised transmission of images or sound through electronic communication from inside HMP Wandsworth and HMP Lowdham Grange.
The offence involving electronic communication occurred between February and October 2024, according to the charge.
Crosdale remains on recall to prison until 2029.
Both defendants were granted unconditional bail following their guilty pleas and are scheduled to be sentenced together on February 9, 2027.
The case highlights concerns about professional misconduct and the use of unauthorised mobile phones by inmates within correctional facilities.
