Mass Exodus as Tarka-Guma Communal Clashes Escalate, Houses Razed

The protracted communal conflict festering along the border settlements of Tarka and Guma Local Government Areas has taken a devastating turn, with fresh violence leaving a trail of razed homes and sparking a massive humanitarian displacement.

Residents of the border enclaves were thrown into profound panic as the crisis escalated dramatically, forcing families into a desperate, late-night scramble for safety.

According to local reports, the emergency alerts rippled through communities around 11:00 pm, warning residents to flee for their lives as armed conflict intensified and houses were torched.

The atmosphere of absolute panic prompted an immediate mass evacuation. Over 80% of the settlement’s population has reportedly abandoned their ancestral homes, clutching whatever minimal valuables, personal belongings, and essential items they could carry on short notice.

Eyewitnesses on the ground report continuous streams of displaced families predominantly women, children, and the elderly trekking on foot and navigating unsafe terrain to seek refuge in neighboring, unaffected villages.

The escalating security breakdown has also caught up with media personnel covering the volatile zone. Unfiltered reporter on site, Abdulrazak, was forced to make a hasty emergency evacuation from his residential lodge.

Reporting from the frontline of the displacement, Abdulrazak confirmed that the threat of imminent and violent incursions specifically spearheaded by elements from Guma Local Government made staying in the area unsafe.

The fresh round of destruction deepens an already fragile security situation in the region, which has struggled with intermittent border hostilities.

As displaced locals continue to flood neighboring districts with little food, shelter, or medical provisions, humanitarian concerns are mounting. Community leaders and displaced families are urgently calling on the Benue State Government, security agencies, and emergency management bodies to intervene decisively, restore law and order, and provide immediate relief materials to the growing population of displaced persons.
