Operate from South-East, Senate Directs SEDC, Commends Enugu Headquarters Project
The Senate has directed the South-East Development Commission (SEDC) to establish its operations in the South-East region, while commending the ongoing development of its headquarters in Enugu State.
The directive underscores the need for the commission to maintain a strong presence in the region and ensure that its activities directly address the developmental needs of the South-East.
The Senate also praised the progress made on the commission’s headquarters project in Enugu, describing the initiative as an important step towards strengthening the institution’s operations and improving its capacity to deliver on its mandate.
The SEDC was established to coordinate development programmes and address infrastructure, economic and social challenges affecting the South-East states.
Its responsibilities include promoting regional development, supporting investment opportunities, improving infrastructure and coordinating interventions aimed at improving the living conditions of residents.
The Senate’s position highlights expectations that the commission should remain accessible to the communities it was established to serve and ensure that its projects produce measurable benefits across the region.
The headquarters project in Enugu is expected to provide an operational base for the commission as it works with federal and state authorities, development partners and other stakeholders to advance regional development.
The commission’s effectiveness will depend on its ability to implement projects transparently, distribute interventions fairly among the states and demonstrate tangible progress in addressing the region’s development priorities.
