DNA Test a Must Before I Accept Any Child, Says Mayorkun
Nigerian singer, Mayorkun has opened up about his plans for marriage and fatherhood, revealing that he intends to sign a prenuptial agreement and carry out a DNA test on any child his partner gives birth to, a position he says has not gone down well with his girlfriend.
The singer, whose real name is Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, made the remarks on a recent episode of the In My Opinion podcast. He said he had already told his girlfriend that a prenup would be necessary before any wedding and that a paternity test would follow the birth of a child, simply to be sure. By his own account, she was upset.
Mayorkun went further, admitting that he had considered conducting the test without telling her. He said the result would decide what happens next, adding that if the child is his, there would be no issues, but if not, “everybody will hear about it.”
The “Body Cheche” hitmaker framed his stance as a matter of peace of mind, comparing a DNA test to a prenup and arguing that men now need to take precautions against raising children who are not biologically theirs.
He acknowledged that he did not think any woman would take such a request well, and said his current partner is aware of his position even though she is not happy about it.
His comments come amid growing public conversation in Nigeria about paternity testing and allegations of paternity fraud, and they have drawn attention online, particularly his suggestion that he could test without his partner’s knowledge.
While some see such precautions as a sensible safeguard, others argue that demanding a test shows a lack of trust in a relationship.
