Fubara Urges Peace, Unity in Rivers as Nigeria Marks 66th Independence
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has called on the people of the state to embrace peace and unity, describing them as essential for social and economic development.
He made the appeal in a goodwill message to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Onwuka Nzeshi, Fubara said the celebration offers Nigerians a chance to reflect on the country’s journey since 1960 and renew their commitment to peaceful coexistence.
He noted that Rivers State, known as the “treasure base of the nation” and home to diverse ethnic groups, has always thrived when its people live in harmony.
The governor stressed that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of division, conflict or political hostility. While political differences are normal in a democracy, he said they must never be allowed to undermine the collective interest of the state.
Fubara said his administration has placed peace at the centre of its governance approach since he assumed office, describing it as the most valuable form of infrastructure. He added that the relative calm in the state has helped attract investments and allowed the government to execute projects across the three senatorial districts.
He appealed to youths, traditional rulers, political leaders and other stakeholders to serve as ambassadors of peace in their communities. The governor also urged Rivers people to continue supporting the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu, saying national unity and cooperation between states are important for the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
