Abia Farmers Endorse PDP Governorship Candidate for 2027

Over 40,000 farmers under the All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Abia State chapter, have endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Dr Kelechi Anosike, for the February 6, 2027 election.

The endorsement was announced on Tuesday by the state chairman of AFAN, Mike Okezie.

Okezie led members of the association’s executive to meet Anosike at his campaign office on Aba Road in Umuahia. He said the farmers decided to support the candidate because of his proposed agricultural policies and welfare programmes, describing him as a politician with a clear agenda for the sector.

In a resolution, AFAN said it considered Anosike’s plans on food security, rural development and farmers’ welfare. The association highlighted proposals such as Operation Feed Abia, restoration of agricultural extension services, farm mechanisation, grants, revitalisation of farm settlements and broader rural development.

Responding, the Chairman of the Abia PDP Campaign Council, Ambassador Empire Kanu, said the farmers had made the right choice. PDP state chairman and deputy governorship candidate Elder Amah Abraham pledged that the next PDP administration would nominate a farmer as commissioner for agriculture.

Anosike accepted a request to create a Directorate of Farmers within the campaign council and assured the association that farmers would play a key role in his proposed government. He promised to boost food production, restore extension services, provide grants, revitalise farm settlements and attract young people into agriculture as a major driver of jobs and wealth.
