The Federal Government has announced the immediate start of academic activities at the newly established Federal Technical College, Eke, in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State. The development forms part of efforts to strengthen technical education and build a skilled workforce for national industrial growth.

The principal of the college, Mr Gideon Angbeye, addressed prospective pioneer students and parents at the supplementary examination centre on Monday. He described the institution as a key step by the Federal Government to bridge Nigeria’s skills gap.

Angbeye said the government has made full provisions for the pioneer students to receive high-quality technical education free of charge. This includes coverage of all tuition fees, the supply of student uniforms and the provision of quality daily meals throughout their studies.

He explained that the curriculum is structured to emphasise practical skills. The first stage focuses on foundational theory and technical principles, the second on intensive workshop practice, and the third on combining advanced practical work with academic knowledge.

The college is forming partnerships with industrial research institutes such as the Projects Development Institute and the Scientific Equipment Development Institute to support quality training. Angbeye urged the pioneer students to make full use of the opportunity and thanked the Eke community for its cooperation in helping the college take off smoothly.
